Quality is something we build into each and every part of a U.S. Log & Timber home—from top to bottom, from start to finish—right from the time we select our logs from ecologically maintained forests, to the time we cut them in our plant, to the time we deliver them directly to your site.
Note: Twenty-two years ago, U.S. Log & Timber partners made a commitment to use dead-standing timber rather than cut old growth living trees. It was an industry fact that the finest log homebuilders in North America, such as Alpine Log Homes, only used standing dead trees from high desert mountain forests – just as we do today. The reason for this is the dry, harsh desert climate tree rings grow tight and slow. All log builders know that the ideal logs are ones that have been seasoned for 9-12 months after cutting. Such is the case with dead-standing. Although harvesting these logs, and culling through them to find logs that meet TPI grading are more expensive -- they more than make up for how easy the wood adds to the quality of the end product.
As the U.S. Log & Timber mill partnership moves forward, we foresee no change in our green and forestry responsible commitment.
Our model designs go through the same rigorous examination. All logs, notches and components are checked and rechecked for structural integrity, Both by our own design staff and by our structural engineer. It also means each log processed at our manufacturing facilities will be carefully inspected for appearance, proper shaping, and accuracy of the cut. Our mill processing facility is TPI inspected and our logs graded for TPI building certification and approval. And not only are we concerned that the building materials we manufacture are of the best possible quality, we also make certain that all items included in our log packages are of the highest grade.
For example, the windows we supply are not only attractive, but are very functional with easy maintenance features such as removable sashes and grilles. Our doors are not just made of veneer or imitation wood . . . they're solid wood through and through. And the utmost attention is paid to details like window jambs, hinges, sash locks and nails. Little details mean a lot to us, so we put a lot into the making of our log homes . . . almost four times the amount of material you would find in a conventional home.
Without quality, a log home would be just another pretty place!
